The Book Discussion Group sponsored by FRIENDS has been a success for almost 10 years. Meetings are held in the Connecticut Room of the New Milford Library on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. Current enrollment has peaked at 20 members, therefore, if there is enough interest, forming another group is being considered. A variety of book categories are considered for discussion: current fiction, non-fiction, classics, older fiction and biographies. Some of the liveliest discussions this year centered on My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult, The Ugly American by Lederer and Burdick, Ordinary Heroes by Scott Turow, and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See. For more information, please call the Library at 355-1191, and leave a message or email us at bookdiscussion@friendsnmpl.org for more information.
Writing Group
This past year, FRIENDS began sponsorship of a Writing Group which has met on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. in the Connecticut Room of the New Milford Library. Over the months the group interest has evolved in the direction of memoirs and short pieces on submitted random topics. All writing and critiquing takes place within the group and the allotted time of 2 hours. Happily, progress is being made in both style and freedom of expression. This is great fun for those interested in writing in a more casual setting. The Group is taking a break, but if interest continues, they plan to re-group in the Spring. Watch the Library’s Bulletin Board for future announcements or call the Library at 355-1191 or email writinggroup@friendsnmpl.org for more information.
